A Journey Nine Years in the Making

Nutshell Farm has been a dream come true - our pride and joy built over nearly a decade.

For a time, we were growing organic fruits and vegetables on the sunshine coast, and the one thing we could never do was find really good organic beef and pork. This became a newfound passion of ours to move somewhere where we could grow our own meat, not as a business at first, but for a self-sufficient lifestyle.

And in that journey, we actually discovered a relationship with a breed of pigs that originated from our home in England - the Cornish large black pig. Sharon knew them as a child, and they're the most affectionate and beautiful animals that you could ever wish to work with. They also produce the very best pork.

And thus began our journey into this magical world of pork and beautiful beef, grown in a fabulous landscape.

When we bought the farm in 2017 it was in a very sorry state. A few cattle meandered wherever they liked, fencing was old and broken, water security was non-existent, and the all-important soil had been sadly neglected for years.

With the aid of an arborist and a local university the mineral deficiencies in the soil were identified and subsequently rectified.  The start of our investment of $800,000 that transformed this once neglected farm into a showcase certified organic and certified biodynamic farm with a thriving, profitable business.

Today, while we designed Nutshell Farm to suit a variety of animals - cattle, sheep, goats or pigs - it is now best known for its certified organic pork, which today is in demand from organic butchers from Queensland to Sydney. Along with certified biodynamic beef,  the farm has become a very profitable business with considerable growth potential.

Life on a farm is truly a way to reconnect with nature, to escape the crowds, noise and smells of modern city life.  A place to bring up a family, to learn where our food comes from, to see the wonders of the night sky and avoid the neighbour’s surround sound system.  A place to live well, a place to eat well and a place to sleep well.

But, while not everybody wants to be a full-time farmer, most would surely like to experience this truly unique lifestyle at least once in their life.

At Nutshell Farm we offer a number of options including bed-and-breakfast or longer term farm stays.  We also host group paddock-to-plate lunches and dinners

We also host backpackers working to fulfill the 88-days required for their second year visa, for which Nutshell Farm is approved to offer.
